Pikeville, KY is a progressive city with many amenities found in more urban areas and a fascinating history. Still, Pikeville retains it’s small-town feel and charm.

The Hatfields and McCoys

By far, the animosities and battles between the Hatfields and the McCoys is the most infamous feud between families in American history. The feud was immortalized in a 2012 miniseries by the History Channel featuring Kevin Costner, Bill Paxton, Powers Booth and Prestonsburg native, Boyd Holbrook. The area is home to many  feud-related events and locations including

  • The Randal McCoy house in Pikeville (now an italian restaurant.. but it is possible to eat in Randal’s dining room!)
  • The Pikeville Court House which hosted the murder trial of Ellison “Cottontop” Mounts” and the hanging location.
  • The Dills Cemetery, burial place of Randolph, Sally and Roseanna McCoy
  • The burial place of attorney Perry Cline
